Marianna to Quincy

Today was 54 mile ride and it was very hilly. I thought it was suppose to be flat in Florida. We have pictures of one big hill crossing the Chattahooche River and we felt like we were in Texas again. Again we had dogs chasing us, and in this instance, this pack brought friends and we ran for our lives. One of our fellow riders had a whistle and was trying to blow it, but she also needed to breath. The whistle sounded more like a toy than a dog defense.

We had a lovely lunch in Quincy at Burger King as we could get food and ice cream at one stop and the hotel was only 2 1/2 miles away.

The mood of the tour has changed as we get close to St. Augustine and people are ready to go home. Everyone has missed their favorite foods, coffee, pets, friends, family and generally their way of life. My life has been put on hold for 2 months, although I get a Charlie gram every morning from my cousin Chris. I will never complain again about our roads in California as my cycling parts have taken a beating. I could never of done this trip without the help of my cousin, she has been so terrific with taking care of my home and dog. My neighbors Curt and Ginny are just as fabulous and I so miss all my friends. Well that's it for now.

  1. We sure miss you two, too! Seems awfully quiet around here. So glad you have done so well on this long, long trip and we look forward to all the stories upon your return.

  2. Yes, you are dreaming of your own bed, in your quiet home, your soft sheets, your pillow, you rug, your bathroom close by, your frig filled with your goodies, your TV stations, your....your.....your......but look at this accomplishment. At least once a week, somewhere in a check out line or store, I get in, "Yes, I am tired doing this, BUT I HAVE BIKED ACROSS THE COUNTRY, "and there are "You are amazing," and "I could never do that."
Look at what you have done and are about to finish. Now was when I started getting saddle sores, so take care of yourself.......Keep on going, keep on going, keep on going. While this is not particularly the most interesting part of the ride, it is however closer to St. Augustine......................smile and start slapping yourself on the back for your great accomplishment. I am proud of you and what you have done, and what pleases me more than anything is that MOM is looking down on you with a drink in her hand and smiling to you! BRavoooooooo!

  3. Wendy, the above comment is sooo true....WE ARE AMAZED!!! Not very many people can have that accomplishment in their pocket for a life long memory!! Ever since Dick, Gail's cousin, had met up with you guys, he has been out in the little shop working on his old mountain bike!! He is 72 and you have totally inspired him, well, ALL of us!! You all have been the talk of the town! We are AMAZED and PROUD....and even fending off those dogs!!! That one needs an invention for the next riders!! Maybe a little blow horn aerosol can, small, attached to the handle bar easy to reach and pointing backwards...or a whistle aerosol!! BRAVO!!!!
