Wickenburg to Phoenix

Today was a great day as we got see Dave and Nancy Axthelm on Hwy 74,about 20 miles outside Wickenburg. We had been emailing each other as they were driving from Scotsdale back home. They had ice cold Diet Cokes and power bars for us and it was our sag spot,so they could meet some of the other riders. We finally got a tailwind today and we get into Phoenix on a 66 mile day at around 2:00pm. Several us went to the bike shop and Gail had a clicking sound and the shop took care of it. I sat on the couch, which felt very good. The scenery doesn't change much, cactus everywhere.
Yesterday on the blog we had pictures of the hotel we stayed in Salome and the white building was our room. Apparently,in the 1800's,our room was a justice of the peace for weddings. There was also an expended shotgun shell on the ground near our room.

We have been eating at McDonalds for lunch,as it is quick, and the temps were again 102 degrees with the ground temps. I am always worried about heat. Gail is not bothered by the heat. But today wasn't to bad. That's all for today. We are getting your emails and comments and love them.

  1. Yeaaaa Dave & Nancy to the rescue! Wish we could hook up with you in AZ too but our timing is off.
You are fantastic. Say hi to the people in Phoenix. I lived in Phoenix for 4 years in the 1970's. My son was born in the Phoenix hospital. When you get to Texas you can say "hi" to my ex-father-in-law. He lives in Corsicana, south of Dallas. And you'll be south of Austin, which is a great city, by the way. After that I have no relatives in the rest of the states you will ride in. Keep on trekking. Wish we could be with you.

  3. Hi Gail
Been following your blog, since you left Calif. sounds like some interesting country, and you have seen a lot. I have flown over that country a thousand times and I guess the view from a bike is quite different. Texas may not be so interesting. We are looking forward to seeing you and hopefully Kellie and her kids can can make it over to Kerville when you are there. Keep peddeling and be safe. Later Dick Peck
