Lords burg to Silver City

Well today I hit the wall of being tired. Our ride was 48 miles and mostly climbing and that would be doable, but no one told us about the high headwind. I only made it ten miles and I was exhausted. I got into the sag for the day,but Gail was one tough broad. She found 3 other tough broads to ride with and was able to finish. At some point in the ride, the speed of travel was 3mph,and the wind was 30 knots. I don't know the conversion of knots to MPH,but, some people were whipped around on their bikes. I think only half of the people finished the whole ride.

Gail put her bike into the bike shop this afternoon as she has a noise that can't be fixed as of yet. I have 2 gears not shifting,so I will do the same tomorrow and clean and lube the chain. Our bikes are taking a beating with all the terrain, oil, glass, tire shreds, and rocks.

We finally have a day off tomorrow after 8 days of riding and we will be looking for a real breakfast. We are getting tired of the hotel breakfasts and the search for real coffee is never ending. Gail is going to send out her picture of her going over the Continental Divide at a later time. The picture taking is less and less as the ride gets longer and longer.

Our next day of riding is Friday, where we take on Emory pass, which is the highest point of the trip.

  1. You both deserve a good cup of coffee and a good day of rest. You continue to be the topic of conversation around here. The whole group was at Oracle this AM for the traditional eggs Benedict ride. Of course, it was raining so we sort of forgot about the riding part. You have our complete admiration for your accomplishments! Enjoy tomorrow!

  2. Ah yes, no one tells you that you have hills AND WIND!!!!! Did you ever find someone to give you a massage?
I am telling you that it revives you, especially for Emory Pass. The Pass is very doable if you pace yourselves. The road is delightfully quiet with not too much traffic, and when we were there, the spring buds were starting on the trees. Take a photo at the top, and wait for the place you stay at the bottom of the hill.........one of a kind.

  4. What a day! A rest day has never been needed more and soooo well deserved. You two are doing great, ow if the bikes will just cooperate. I think you need a good massage and hot tub experience to get ready for Emory Pass. We're all thinking of you all the time!

  5. Hi, That ride yesteday would tire out anybody. It is the top of a hill that you never see. I checked the ride from Silver City up Emory on my "MY Gps.com" and it is another challenge. Wendy I know you know to ride within yourself. Good luck to both of you, Curt

  6. Enjoy your day of rest. Sleep in, get some good coffee, and have a big breakfast. By the way 30 knots equals 34.5 mph. One knot equals 1.15+++ mph. You two are amazing, my heros! John M
