Today we did our 28 mile ride and we left 30 minutes before the menfolk. Dori,Gail, and myself always stop on Cavitt Stillman to talk to the llamas and after we left, gail suggested I photograph all my riding supplements or as I call it,the "secret room". I have used Hammer products for a long time and they consist of energy powders, electrolytes pills, vitamins, recovery powders, gels, and shock blocs. I just don't know how I can take 2 months worth of these products and make the 50 pound limit with 2 bags.
Gail and Wendy are cycling from San Diego, across the southern states, and ending in Florida. That's 3064 miles and 58 days of sitting in the "saddle" while touring California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida! They promise to keep us updated on their progress and their adventures. THEY DID IT!!!

The long way to Fair Oaks
Today Dori,Gail, and myself rode from Roseville, through Folsom, and had lunch in Fair Oaks. We stayed on the American River Trail from Beale Point to Fair Oaks and got off there and climb a hill to get to our deli. It is always fun to see the chickens and we stopped on the Old Folsom bridge to take a picture. We usually just ride over and not stop, but it is really pretty there,so we stopped. Gail's knee was talking a little bit,so we took it easy on any hill and we were in "cruise mode" for the forty five mile ride. As usual, when I am writing this blog, I am laying down.

They Just Keep on Riding!
The following information was sent out to our cycling club tonight. I thought I would share it on Wendy & Gail's blog. Curt is providing them with excellent support! I would be whining about the hills! That's why they are doing the ride and I'm working behind the scene on their blog.
Here is what Curt had to say:
"As you know Wendy and Gail have been training for the ride across America.
We do a long ride of 50 miles plus each week. Today was probably the toughest
ride so far. The ride was 51 miles with 2400’ of climbing. The girls joined
Karl and I up Chili Hill (17%) followed by Bald Hill (17-18%). Yes tough but no
they did not walk or whine. They were great. I think next week we will find a
easier ride “flat” to give them some seat time."

Hill repeats on Indian Hill
Today Gail,Dori, and myself rode from the Nugget parking lot(Roseville) to Penryn. Our goal today was to go up Indian Hill road twice and this was the first time doing this.We then to coffee at Trailhead and then headed home. As we passed through the town of Loomis,I got a flat on the rear tire and we stopped to changed it.Curt had just given us a class on tire removal and tire changing Thursday night in his garage,so were prepared. But my wheel is difficult to get off,but we managed, thanks to Curt, and changed our first flat tire with no guys around to do it for us.i had glass that cut my tire, but we made it back to the cars and we quite proud of ourselves.one our goals before leaving on this trip,is to be able to change a tire in under 10 minutes. That didn't happen in Loomis, but we will get better as we have extra tires, rims, and tubes too practice at home, thanks to Bill Burger. We do have a picture of this, but we not able to put it on the blog from Gail's camera. Our total mileage was 38 miles and 2100ft of climbing.

My Privilege
Today, Friday, generally is not a riding day for me. But since the grand kids were coming over I decided to go for a ride before their arrival. This would give me the chance to try out some new tights and see if I still needed to double up in this cold weather, I do. But what was so remarkable about this cold sunny morning ride were the people I rode with! I had the privilege of riding with a Cycle Club member who is one of our 2 WWII vets! Wow, how great for me. Then there were the other 4 riders who also ventured out on this cold morning. We stopped at McDonalds and there found 2 other riders who decided to get there via cars. Our Sun City Cycle Club is a very special place for me and many others. As time goes on I will detail all that they mean to me. I've included the McDonald's picture where the Sr coffee is $.53!

Jan 16th Wheatland Ride
Today's riders consisted of myself,Curt,Gail,Dori,Mike, Jeff,Bill Burger, and Norm(cut off in Lincoln) and the started in temps around the freezing marks. The ride had a stop on Industrial with my flat tire and a quick fix by Curt and Jeff, but it going to bother me all day because the air would not hold.We rode out past Camp Far West and gail and I took 1 picture of a bridge that crossed into Yuba County. This an area I had never been to,and it was very pretty. I had been to Wheatland before, but we rode on the new Hwy 65 before it opened to cars. We had lunch in Wheatland at a very nice Mexican restaurant and then rode 25 miles home. I was riding on a flat tire all the way into my driveway, and before that Bill twice put air into tire on the ride home.
Today's mileage was 55 miles.

Another cold day in Paradise
Today we rode 23 miles and 3 hills for practice.I took a picture of my dog still in his bed. Charlie is the smart one to stay inside when it is in the 30 degree temp, but we have no choice but to grin and shiver. The route was park hill, backside of park at 14 percent angle, and up Stanford ranch to Peets coffee in the Nugget shopping center.while there we ran into John and Gail Maloney and had coffee together and laughed. Tomorrow we have a 55 mile ride.

Since I didn't ride thought I would show just what is worn in very cold weather. For No. CA that would be a temp of under 40. We'll go out to around 25-26 depending on how sunny it is. So if I got this to work there should be 2 pix. 1 of our foggy day ride in Davis, CA of a bull. The other is my full cold weather wear. I do get cold so wear lots of layers. Let's see if this works for me..

Cold Sunday ride/1/13/13
Dori and myself were the only fools to ride this morning, but I have to train so put on 3 layers of clothes and go. Dori was getting over her cold and was ready to ride and Gail is just getting her cold now and didn't ride today. It is so hard to get these training rides in and stay healthy, with cold and flu everywhere. I took a picture of my clothing I had on and it looks like I could rob a bank as you can't see my face. But the bright yellow jacket is a dead giveaway.
This week I have ridden 160 miles and we are working up to 200 miles a week on 4 days of riding. Gail and are also personal training with Gina in our gym to get upper body strength,so that we can handle the strain on the body of riding 6 days a week on the ride. Well, that's it for today. I am laying down now!

Training ride from Davis to Capay
Today was a 57 mile ride and it was cold and damp fog for most of the adventure. Bill Burger,Curt Taylor,Gail Devitt, and myself were the lucky ones to complete this adventure. We saw 4 ostriches and 2 bulls and Gail did take a picture of the bulls. You could barely see them in the picture, but Gail did take a picture of the Bill and Curt wearing their Caltrans jackets and yes you could see them quite clearly. Gail submitted the picture to the company that makes those jackets and they want to use the picture for advertising.
We ate lunch at a wonderful grill in Cupay called the Roadtrip Bar and Grill.Very good food. I was quite tired after this ride and was glad to get back to the car which was parked in Davis.

Training Ride - Lama visit
Today was a ride designed for both Dori and Wendy's cold convalescence. Meaning that our friend Curt would take it easy on us and even stop for Lama pix. This is my first entry with hopefully the Lama included. So we're off to the beginning of training.
Llama ride
Today myself Curt Taylor,Gail, and Dori did a 29 mile ride and stopped at our favorite llama farm on Cavitt Stallman road. Dori and I are getting over our colds,so Curt took it easy on us. Every time we go to this farm, this llama likes to climb the rock and pose for us. We are easily entertained.
